Q. What is DAmn Fine Magazine?

A.

DAmn Fine as an independant art based magazine that is run by a devoted team of editors here on DeviantArt. Our aim is to showcase those that we feel are underrated and help promote new/developing artists to the wider DA community. We are all about unearthing those hidden gems hidden deep within the DA ether.

Each month we are hoping to release a new issue featuring different artists from a range of mediums and genres. For example, for the first issue the Medium was Photography and the Genres were Landscapes, Night Photography and Portraiture. We are looking to create as diverse a collection of issues as possible.

Each issue will be released in two stages, a printed version and a flash based version. This means that everyone can enjoy the magazine, whether it be in an E-Zine context or maybe by buying the printed version as a gift for a friend.

Q. How much does the printed version cost?

A.

This will change from issue to issue depending on the page number and the format of the magazine. As we are using a print on demand service people should keep in mind that a very large percentage of the money paid for an issue actually goes to the printers. We get very little in way of profit, considering the time and effort we put in to each edition. However, profit is not the driving force of this magazine and as such has little impact on our motivations. We will always try to aim for the lowest possible price for our customers.

Q.Who is on the Editors Team?

A.

Currently it is just the three of us on the editing team, however in the future there is a good chance we will be recruiting others to help co-ordinate different sections of the magazine.

Q. How do I submit my work to the magazine?

A.

Firstly you should check the art medium and genres we are concentrating on for the current issue. There is no point in submitting work for future issues if it is just going to end up sitting on our hard-drive for months. Once you have established that you do indeed have the matierial we are looking for then please Note us with as many as 10 deviations that you would like to see published in the magazine. Once this is done we shall check through your gallery to make sure that you meet our Entry Criteria. If all goes well then we shall add you to the Submitters List. Once the submission period is over the editors will sit down and decide who should be put into the magazine. This is purely due to the fact that there is limited space, we would love to feature everyone but it just isn't feasible.
Everybody will be mentioned on a Submitters page in the magazine though, so everyone still gets free publicity.

Q. What are the Entry Criteria?

A.

To be honest it is nothing all that sinister. All we ask for each edition is that submitters have less than 10,000 pageviews. (This was originally 5000, however it severely limited the amount of people that could submit to the magazine) That is pretty much it. Once we have established that your gallery is viable we will send you the submissions email.

Q. How would you like the work submitted?

A.

Once you have been told that your work is going to be put in to the magazine we need the ORIGINAL image file. We cannot stress this enough. To get optimal printing quality we need to have images with the highest possible quality. Preferably we would like to see all images sent to us in the following format:

* Original Dimensions .i.e NO resizing. This means making the image larger OR smaller.

* 300dpi. Preferably. If this isn't possible then we can work around this, but please do not send us files downloaded off your DA page or off the internet. The resolution is just too low.

Q. What is the situation with copyright?

A.

All copyright will remain with the artist, you will just be giving us permission to publish the images in the magazine. We will state in every magazine that the images are not to be copied/edited/distributed without your express permission.
Please do not send us work of a commercial nature if you are not in sole ownership of the copyright .i.e. you have been commissioned to produce work but do not have the rights to sell them on. By submitting work to us you will be assuring us that you have full rights to its ownership

Q. What is the STAR Gallery?

A.

The STAR Gallery is an award reserved for those with truly astounding work that we feel deserves special attention. It is essentially our magazines version of the Daily Deviation but will be awarded on overall gallery content, not just one artwork. Artists awarded the STAR Gallery will earn themselves a permanent spot on our Wall Of Fame, as well as eternal bragging rights. There shall only ever be one STAR award given for each genre in an issue (so if there are three genres then there shall be three STAR awards issued, one to a different artist in each genre)

Q. I have a suggestion for the magazine. Where do I send it?

A.

We are always wanting to hear suggestions on how to improve the magazine so please feel free to send us your suggestions. The best way to do this is obviously to leave comments on our work, or alternatively Note us with the relevant suggestion. We shall take all of your views into account.

Q. I want to help out with the magazine. How can I?

A.

Well seeming as Issue 1 is now out of the way we are looking to expand in terms of content. We would love to include art reviews (on everything from paintings to films to modern sculpture), an exhibition overview for each month, interviews with artists, more tutorials and much much more. If you are interested in helping out, and we mean seriously interested, then please get in touch by Note. We are always happy to work with people who want to try their hand at journalism or just want to help gather information for the magazine.
